New Guinea Rosewood timber, up close end grain

Committed to Sustainability

At The Door Keeper we are committed to ethical and sustainable manufacturing practices.  Solid timber doors are a great choice for sustainability.  Made from natural wood, they come from a renewable resource, especially when sourced from responsibly managed forests. Their long lifespan means they don’t need replacing as often, reducing the environmental footprint over time. When they do reach the end of their life, solid timber is biodegradable and easily recyclable, unlike many modern manufactured materials. You can repurpose or reclaim old solid timber doors, which keeps them out of landfills, adding to their eco-friendly appeal.

Engineered doors, while sometimes more affordable, don’t hold up as well in terms of sustainability. Their manufacturing process is more energy-intensive and involves synthetic adhesives, which can emit harmful chemicals. Engineered doors are made from mixed materials like MDF and veneers, they’re harder to repair and recycle, and almost always end up in landfills. So, while engineered doors might save you some money upfront, solid timber doors are a much better option for those wanting a more sustainable, long-lasting door.
